The LDS

We are all looking for sources of records... this Board is for Posting information and links indicating where such sources can be found. The best info that can be Posted would be a database saerchable on the internet, whether free or for a fee.

Here's my contribution... it's the IGI (International Genealogical Index) vcreqated and maintained by the Mormons, also known as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (abbreviated "LDS"). These followers traipsed the world microfilming records at their own expense, and allow everyone else to share in their wealth of data.

The LDS in Salt lake City also maintain a huge microfilm library, which they allow people to borrow on the ILL (Inter-Library Loan) scheme at a nominal rate (there are directories on CDs available at the LDS Temples with "Family History Centres" and at many large libraries). Rental of the films is easy to arrange with affiliated libraries in North America, and I do know that the microfilms are also available outside this continent (NA) as well.

The advantage of the microfilms is that, if you use a viewer combined with a good quality photocopier you can get very good b/w copies of the original documents.
