SOUTH of St. Elizabeth Parish, Jamaica

Postby claremont » Thu Feb 24, 2011 4:33 pm

I have traced my mother's grandfather to Abraham South of Burnt Ground, St Elizabeth Parish, but need someone else's input to be sure I have the right person, and to discover his origins. The closest match I can get is a Quadroon slave on the plantation of Mrs Elizabeth Brooks about 1829. Quadroon means one parent white, one parent mulatto (off-spring of white/african parents). Anyone out there on a similar quest?

My father's note to me on the South family was simply that the origin was of English birth, possibly as an overseer or bookkeeper in the early 1800's.
