John James Cook was born 1845 in the West Indies his father was Gyles Cook a goldsmith from Boston, Massachusetts. John James was a seaman in Liverpool, England. He married Mary Agness Maidment in Liverpool 1870. John James sailed to Brisbane on the barque Babycito on 3 Feb 1873 from Liverpool. When he reached Brisbane he went to work at a sugar factory on the Logan River, Brisbane. Shortly after this he fell into a vat of boiling sugar and died soon after. He was buried 29 Nov 1873 in Brisbane.
He left a wife and a daughter Maria Elizabeth Cook.
