Once Navy - Always Navy
The "Dasher" memorial was dedicated in 1993 and is situated at Ardrossan [South Beach], a small town in Ayrshire, just across the road from Saint Peters Roman Catholic chapel. HMS Dasher exploded and sank close by off the island of Arran on March 27th, 1943. The actual location of the wreck is just South of Little Cumbrae Island in the Forth of Clyde.
I was contacted recently to see if I had ever heard of the "Dasher" an ironic coincidence as I have lived in Ardrossan and was very aware of the incident. The pictures below were taken by my son in August 2002. I record this information purely from memory and as a favour to a fellow Shipmate, any information that might be the same or similar to other related sites is coincidental.
